What we believe

We are a Christian Church: We believe in one God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) who has revealed himself supremely through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. To know God the Father, we must put our trust in his Son and his death on a cross for our sins. We believe that Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to heaven where He now reigns. We believe in the future visible and personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ. "Surely I am coming quickly". Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

We are an Evangelical Church: We believe that the Bible is God’s word which speaks clearly and with relevance to our life and modern world. The Bible is the definitive guide for us in all matters of faith and conduct.  We seek to apply the Word of God to every aspect of our lives. In order to do this we place a high value on preaching, teaching and studying God’s word together.

We are a Missionary Church: Because we believe that Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life” and that no-one can come to the Father except through him, we place a high value on sharing our faith both in Cadoxton and throughout the rest of the world.  Our desire is to see people come to know Jesus and put their trust and faith in him.

We are a Charismatic Church: We believe in the person, the power, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. We believe that God still works miracles, signs, and wonders today and we believe that the Holy Spirit gives his gifts to the church to help us in our Christian lives and in our purpose to know Jesus better and to make Him better known.

We are a Contemporary Church: We try and do everything in ways which communicate to our contemporary culture.  Because of this we use a modern version of the Bible in our services and make use of modern music styles as well as traditional hymns in our worship.  Most of our worship is led by a worship group with guitar, drums and keyboard.  We usually do not use hymn books, but use a projector to display the song-words for our worship.

We are a Welcoming Church:  Although Mount Pleasant is a Baptist Church, we have members from many different backgrounds and traditions.  Some people have been members of a church all of their lives, whilst others have become believers in recent years.  The Church has members who have always been Baptist believers, whilst others have joined us from a variety of other church backgrounds - everyone is welcome!

We are a Family Church: Everybody, from the youngest to the oldest are welcome and can feel at home.  During most services the younger children meet in the adjoining hall and the youth leave the service after the initial worship time for their own lesson. On a number of occasions through the year, the whole congregation meet on Sunday morning for a family service.

We are a Baptist Church:  We are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the South Wales Baptist Association.  We subscribe to the Baptist Union Declaration of Principle:  The Basis of the Baptist Union is:

1. That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.

2  That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who 'died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried, and rose again the third day'.

3  That it is the duty of every disciple to bear personal witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.

We are part of the commonwealth of Israel: We believe that the Wild Olive Branch (The Church) is grafted into the Olive Tree (Israel) and that we both abide in the True Vine (Jesus Christ).
